One Day Samurai
一日侍
Become a samurai for a day
One Day Samurai is an invitation to step onto the dojo floor and experience kendo — the Japanese way of the sword — for the very first time. In a single session, newcomers pick up a shinai, learn the posture, footwork, and etiquette of the samurai tradition, and feel what it means to face an opponent with focus and respect.
Organised by the Tunisian Kendo League, the experience opens the door to a martial art practised in Tunisia since 2010 — no experience, no equipment, and no prior training required.
The experience
What a day looks like
- Welcome & the spirit of budo. A short introduction to kendo, its samurai roots, and the etiquette that frames every practice.
- First cuts. Handling the shinai, the ready stance (kamae), and the fundamental strikes under the guidance of the League's instructors.
- Footwork & focus. The sliding footwork and the unity of spirit, sword, and body that kendo trains.
- Facing an opponent. A first, guided encounter — the moment that gives One Day Samurai its name.
Sessions welcome curious beginners of all ages. Full details, dates, and registration live at samurai.tn.
